Google sponsors the LinuxBIOS project

LinuxBIOS is a free open source software project aimed at replacing the proprietory BIOS. It performs necessary hardware initialization and than executes different boot loaders aka payloads. Few popular payloads are FILO, OpenBIOS, EtherBOOT and ADLO.

Google’s sponsorship would definitely help improve quality of the LinuxBIOS project. I was surprised to see more than one million devices shipped with LinuxBIOS this year. They are set to have explosive growth in 2007.

Google adds Skype to Google Pack

Many PC makers including Dell , bundle Goolge Pack in their PCs so I assume inclusion of Skype would provide an option to choose VOIP services.

This looks to me win-win for Google & Skype. Skype has an interesting problem. Skype needs a vehicle to go directly to PCs, especially after Yahoo extended its reach to provide VOIP services to millions of MSN messenger users. Google Pack may provides what Skype is looking for. For Google, Google talk is not catching up as fast as they would have hoped. Also Yahoo & MSN messengers interoperability provides another hurdle to overcome. This relationship may help Google to have strategic alliance with Skype in future.

Despite of direct competition with Payal & Google Checkout, I think eBay & Goolge can workout a deal which can provide protect their interest in different space.

Microsoft launches free accounting software

Microsoft today lauches Microsoft Office Accounting Express 2007 for small businesses and it is free. Microsoft also plans to include Office Accounting Express 2007 as part of Microsoft Office 2007 professional and ultimate releases. It is integrated with other Microsoft Office products.

I watched product demonstration. It has Outlook style and looks clean.

I initially thought Microsoft wants to lure small businesses outside USA but website says this software is designed for US based businesses. It raises a question who are ready to adopt and migrate in already competitive market of finanical softwares. It may put some pressure on Intuit. I guess good for small businesses.

Yahoo launches Internet Explorer 7, before Microsoft

Well, title is little misleading, but the news itself is kind of interesting. You can download Internet Explorer 7 optimized for Yahoo from here. The question is, Is it intentional or fiasco? May be it is intentional, When I installed IE 7 beta earlier this year, I found that Yahoo toolbar stopped working. I think Yahoo wants to preempt users and avoid backlash. No doubt it shows how much Microsoft and Yahoo are aligned these days.
