Google sponsors the LinuxBIOS project
LinuxBIOS is a free open source software project aimed at replacing the proprietory BIOS. It performs necessary hardware initialization and than executes different boot loaders aka payloads. Few popular payloads are FILO, OpenBIOS, EtherBOOT and ADLO.
Google’s sponsorship would definitely help improve quality of the LinuxBIOS project. I was surprised to see more than one million devices shipped with LinuxBIOS this year. They are set to have explosive growth in 2007.
